Hey,
I want to meet them, too!
When
we’re networking, we often hear somebody in the room
get up and make a request for somebody that we
would like to meet – THAT is a good person for you to
meet with; and what’s fun is somebody will make a
request for a prospect that we haven’t thought of,
that we’d like to meet. And for me, that’s when
it’s really fun – when you think “Wow, that’s an
interesting request – that would probably be somebody
that would be good for me to meet, too.” And then you
go to that person and you have a one-on-one!
This
is what we call a STRATEGIC PARTNER.
It’s someone who wants to meet the same people we do,
regardless of what business the partner is in. Usually,
they want to meet the same prospects as you for entirely
different reasons then you do. This is one of the truly
beautiful things about business networking. You should
be asking for Strategic Partner introductions in some of
your 30 second commercials.
An
introduction to a Strategic Partner is the referral that
keeps on giving.
Here’s
a useful exercise. Make a list of who you are currently
targeting. Who are your prospects this month?
Now,
look at that list and brainstorm who else wants to meet
those prospects. Think creatively. Remember, they
probably want to meet those prospects for completely
different reasons then you do.
Now,
create some 30 second commercials asking to meet these
Strategic Partners.
